UPDATE: 8/14/17
Over the past few years I've been transitioning my beauty products to the better for you, more natural realm. One of the products I've had the hardest time replacing has been my deodorant.
I've really wanted to make the switch to a healthier deodorant after reading several articles and studies that show synthetic fragrances, parabens, aluminum and other undesirable ingredients found in most deodorants have possible links to cancer, especially breast cancer. What we put on our skin is absorbed directly into our bloodstream. It seems only logical that we should all want to be more cautious about the products we use on our bodies. Especially with deodorants, since breast tissue extends up into the underarm area, and harbors a cluster of lymph nodes. Watch this clip I recently came across and do your own Google search on the subject for more evidence. I'm not an expert, but I would rather err on the side of catution and use a safer product, than take chances with my health.
I've tried dozens of natural deorants over the years and not one of them has been able keep the underarm funk at bay. Choosing not to have bad B.O. over my own health concerns, I begrudgingly always end up going back to my same old, name brand deodorant.
I got so tired of wasting money on natural deodorants and being let down, that I quit even trying to find a better option until recently, when I watched an episode of Shark Tank where they featured a company called PiperWai (prounounced piper-why). I got excited that I might have actually found a contender to finally replace my traditional deodorant. I am a total Shark Tank addict and usually have been happy with my purchases of products that were featured on the show. I also loved that co-founder, Jess Edelstein, had so much passion for her product and created PiperWai with her kitchen mixer using activated charcoal, essential oils, and natural moisturizers. Activated charcoal is known for its ability to absorb 1,000x its weight in moisture, keeping you dry. It also draws out oil from the skin, working to clarify and detoxify your skin without drying it out. Also, the essential oils and other ingredients creates a pH balanced environment that keeps you smelling fresh.
PiperWai comes in a cream jar version and a more traditional stick version. I decided to take a chance and try both. After putting both versions to the test for a few months now, I can't believe how well it works for me. I make it through the day with no stinky, armpit funk and stay dry. Yay, finally success!! Also, I am extremely sensitive to scents and get headaches easily, so I love that PiperWai's scent is very light, clean and disappears.
Update 8/14/17: So PiperWai has changed the formula on the stick version and I am not liking it as much. It is easier to put on now, but I don't like that it seems gooier, more wet and sticky. It also has been collecting in the cap for me. I'll be on the hunt for another stick deodorant that works a little better. Still LOVE the jar, but unless they go back to the old formula I won't be re-ordering the stick again.
Both versions work extremely well, but I think the original cream version works slightly better. However, the stick is more convient and easier to use. I like having both options and tend to use the stick daily on work days, then use the cream version when I spend more time outdoors. Sometimes I'll need to reapply later in the day, but most days it's not necessary. If you're more active or athletic, you may want to reapply more often, especially if it's hot out.
We recommend always applying with dry hands to dry skin. Applying to wet or even damp skin can cause the activated charcoal to absorb that moisture, rendering it less effective as you begin to sweat throughout the day.
Make sure you reapply after bathing, swimming, or working out.
Some people find reapplying midday is helpful, especially in the beginning or in the peak of summer.
Check out this link for a bentonite clay mask that is helpful in speeding along the detox process.
You may also rebalance your underarm pH with apple cider vinegar. Combine equal parts ACV and water (a tablespoon of each should be plenty). Apply this once daily prior to applying PiperWai, holding your arms up to allow it to dry completely first. After 1-2 weeks, you can wean your underarms off the ACV mixture. LiveStrong details how a pH imbalance can lead to underarm odor.
The best part about switching to PiperWai is, I feel confident that what I'm putting onto my body is a healthier, safer product and that gives me peace of mind.
Update 8/14/17: I found a great write up on Reviews.com on many of the top deodorants in the market right now. Based on their feedback I'll be trying Shmidt's Naturals next to see how their stick holds up! Stay tuned for more!

This is not a sponsored post. I love PiperWai and want to spread the word about a healthier, safer deodorant option.
