Dole Whip is easily one of my favorite Disney treats! This tart, slightly sweet, creamy pineapple concoction is something I totally crave. One of my first stops when I visit Magic Kingdom is usually to Aloha Aisle, so I can start the day with my favorite treat. Truth be told, I’ve even been known to get a second Dole Whip later in the day when it’s super hot out. It’s just so good I can’t help myself! Lol!
Disney also has a raspberry flavored Dole Whip that I love equally, but it’s not available year round. When they do offer it, I like to get the Pineapple & Raspberry Dole Whip Swirl. It’s my absolute favorite! A few summers ago Disney created the Hei Hei Cone, which was a cone with Pineapple & Raspberry Dole Whip and had fun candy accents that made it look like Hei Hei from Moana. I wish Disney would bring it back!
With the parks being closed due to Covid-19, I’ve missed getting my favorite Disney treat. I’ve seen a lot of recipes on-line for copycat versions of this delicious treat and Disney even released their own recipe. I wanted a non-dairy version, so I sampled a few different recipes that I found, then tweaked them a bit until I came up with my own version that I think is pretty darn close to the real deal. Now, if you like ice-cream, you might want to opt for one of the other recipes that call for vanilla ice-cream, but I choose a version that uses canned coconut milk to keep it non-dairy like the original version.
This is such an easy recipe, anyone can do it! All you have to do is throw all the ingredients below into a blender and enjoy. That’s it! I have a NutriBullet and a Vita-mix, which both work great as they are able to break down frozen fruit really well. If you have a regular blender you might want to let the frozen pineapple thaw out for a few minutes to make it easier to blend, but not too much or you’ll end up with a pineapple smoothie instead of a creamy Dole Whip.
Once blended you can eat it right away, or if it’s thawed out, place the mixture back in the freezer for about 10-15 mins or so to harden back up a little. Pro tip: if you put it in a Zip Lock or icing bag before placing it into the freezer you can then pipe it into a swirl to make it look even more like the real deal! Pro-tip 2: add some rum or vodka for a yummy, adult boozy version!
While this recipe isn’t a replacement for the Original Dole Whip, it’s close enough to satisfy my craving until I’m able to get the real deal once Disney opens back up!
Ingredients:
2 Cups - Frozen Pineapple Chunks
6 oz - Pineapple Juice
2 Tsp - Lime Juice
1 Tsp - Lemon Juice
2 Tbsp - Canned Coconut Milk or Coconut Cream
1/4 Tsp - Vanilla Extract
3/4 Tsp - Stevia or Monk Fruit (2 packets) or (2 Tbsp sugar if you prefer real sugar)
Directions:
Throw all of the ingredients into a blender, NutriBullet or Vita-Mix. Blend on high till creamy. You may need to periodically stop the blender and scrape the sides and/or possibly add more pineapple juice if it’s too thick and then blend again until you’ve reached a creamy, not runny texture.
The mixture will naturally thaw out the more you blend it, so if you’d like it a little thicker, then put it back into the freezer for about 10-15 minutes to harden back up again before enjoying!
*Note: You can also use fresh pineapple and freeze if you prefer.
Optional 1 - To make Raspberry Dole Whip add 1/4 cup frozen raspberries to the above ingredients
Optional 2 - To make an adult boozy version, add 2 to 4 oz of Rum or Vodka (depending on how strong your like your drinks)
