Edit: The Blue Box Cafe is temporarily closed while Tiffany’s is closed for renovations.
All things Tiffany and Co. have been an obsession of mine for as a long as I can remember. I don’t recall the exact moment I fell in love with Tiffany’s, but I seem to have always been completely drawn to that beautiful Tiffany Blue hue. Being such a huge fan of Tiffany’s, the movie Breakfast at Tiffany’s staring Audrey Hepburn has long been a favorite of mine. Like many women, I’ve always dreamed of having Breakfast at Tiffany’s and now that Tiffany’s has opened The Blue Box Cafe at their flagship store in NYC, you can do just that!
The Blue Box Cafe opened October 2018 and has been on the hot list for Tiffany lovers and bloggers galore. It’s a small cafe and in high demand, so getting reservations can be a little tricky. If you’re flexible, patient and diligent, you just might be able to secure a coveted spot!
Reservations can only be made on the site Resy and open up at 9am, 30 days in advance. Sounds easy enough, but every time I tried to log in to make a reservation, it seemed like they were booked up almost immediately. I tried for months to request a specific day/time and each time reservations were unattainable. I have heard of others getting reservations more easily, but that wasn’t my experience.
I ended up figuring out a little trick. If you select a desired date/time and then click “notify when available”, Resy will notify you via email if there has been a cancellation or opening for your desired date and time. You’ll still need to be lighting fast when the email comes through, as I got several email notifications for openings and by the time I went to log in, they were already snatched up! It’s not a fool proof method, but if you’ve been unsuccessful securing an actual reservation for your desired date/time and you’re flexible on when to go, it’s a good way to try and snag a last minute reservation.
I recently moved to Florida from the Philadelphia suburbs, so I used to live fairly close to NYC. Knowing I was moving to Florida, I was desperate to have lunch at The Blue Box Cafe before I moved. I clicked “notify when available” on several weekends that I was free and knew I could go last minute. It would be a while before I could get back up north again and my best chance of going would be while I still lived near there.
After months of trying, I was finally able to secure a reservation. I got an email notification on a Saturday with an opening for lunch that next Sunday afternoon. I snagged it before I even had a chance to think! Success! I couldn’t believe I was finally going to get to experience The Blue Box Cafe!!! Now the hard part, who to take with me?!? Both my hubby and son were working. One by one, I called all my friends and family, starting first with the Tiffany obsessed ones like me. Can you believe that not one single person I knew was available to go!?!
I had resigned myself to the fact that I just might be going by myself, because I for sure, was not going to pass up going for lack of a plus 1. However, I didn’t want to waste my plus 1 either, so I did something I never in a million years thought I would do, I asked a total stranger to go with me!
I belong to a Facebook group called, Tieks Annoymous. It’s a wonderful group of women who love all things related to my favorite shoe brand, Tieks (read more about them here). I decided to see if anyone in that group lived nearby, was also a Tiffany’s fan and might want to go with me. I thought whoever I went with would at least have two things in common with me, a love of both Tieks & Tiffany’s. Lol!
Supringly, several ladies responded. I settled on taking Ismelda and we made plans to meet the next day. I was a bit nervous meeting a total stranger, but was determined to have a great time. Growing up I was painfully shy. Meeting a stranger for lunch even 10 years ago would never have been something I ever considered doing. Over the years, I have pushed myself out of my comfort zone trying to be more outgoing. It’s not easy, but I’ve found it pays off when I set my mind to it and I’m always glad I pushed myself to do something new.
I met Ismelda the next day at Tiffany’s. We both showed up in our favorite shoes, Tieks; she in her Mustard Yellow and me in my Silver Screen. Turns out, she was just as nervous about meeting a complete stranger as I was, but was excited to have lunch at Tiffany’s and meet a fellow Tieks lover. We clicked right away, had a lot in common and soon enough it felt like I was hanging out with an old friend.
Lunch was so fun and delicious. The menu is broken into 3 sections; breakfast, lunch/entrees and Tiffany Tea service. The menu is prix fixe, meaning each section has a fixed price point with several options to choose from. Breakfast options are $29, lunch/entrees are $39 and Tiffany Tea is $49. I found it to be fairly reasonable, considering we were at Tiffany’s and I liked that they offered options in various price points.
Ismelda and I both opted to order the Tiffany Tea service, which included scones, various tea sandwiches, a sampling of sweet treats and of course tea. The food was actually really good. I went just for the experience, but was pleasantly surprised that the food was so yummy.
The scones were light and flakey served with delicious apple butter, honey and whipped cream. The tea sandwiches consisted of chicken salad, smoked salmon with cream cheese, cucumber goat cheese and romesco with asparagus. I have a seafood allergy and our server offered to swap out the salmon sandwhices for more of another one, so I got double chicken salad. They were all yummy, but the chicken salad was my favorite so I was glad I had extra!
The best part of the meal was the sweets. Everything looked almost too pretty to eat....almost! Not only were they just the prettiest thing I’ve seen, but everything tasted amazing. There was even a bar of chocolate made to look like a mini bar of silver stamped with T & Co. The little bar of chocolate and the mini key lime tart were probably my favorite.
Service was top notch. The staff were all warm and friendly. Our server was very attentive and even offered to take pictures of us. We never felt rushed or hurried. The staff appear to know that everyone there is looking to have that quintessential Breakfast (or lunch) at Tiffany’s experience, so they were all very patient and accommodating. I was very impressed with our whole experience.
The Blue Box Cafe is located on the 4th floor of Tiffany’s flagship store in NYC. It’s open Monday thru Saturday from 10am to 5:30pm, with the last seating at 5:30pm and Sunday from Noon to 4:30pm, with the last seating at 4:30pm. It is not open for dinner.
It is small, but stays very busy. Even though it’s busy, it still feels relaxing and enjoyable. Reservations are only taken for 1-4 guests. It doesn’t appear that larger groups are accommodated. If you have a group larger than 4, my guess is you should maybe try makeing a couple separate reservations at the same time.
You should definitely make time before or after your reservation to browse around the store. The flagship store in NYC is my absolute favorite location. It’s so bright and beautifully decorated. Plus it’s such an iconic spot and I just love the history associated with this location. I always joke that it’s my home away from home.
Whether you plan to make a purchase or not while visiting, it’s just fun to walk around and get a feel for all the merchandise in person. I love being surrounded by all the Tiffany Blue items, like this amazing bicycle! What I would give for a Tiffany bicycle.
There are always beautiful displays around the store that change seasonally. This was their paper flowers theme. It felt very springy and bright. The decor changes at Christmas too, which is my favorite time of year at Tiffany’s.
On my way out, I always like to stop by the Audrey Hepburn tribute in the front of the store on the 1st floor. There is a framed letter from her addressed to Tiffany’s and a photo of her from the movie Breakfast at Tiffany’s. It’s the perfect way to end a day at Tiffany’s.
All in all, my Breakfast at Tiffany’s experience was amazing. I got to visit my favorite store, shopped for a new Tiffany’s trinket, had a fabulous meal and made a new friend. What more could a girl want!?! I can’t wait to go back again someday (hopefully with Ismelda again). I hope you find this post helpful when planning your own Breakfast at Tiffany’s experience.
This is not a sponsored post. The Blue Box Cafe is fairly new and I just wanted to share my experience with others who might also enjoy going.
