Over the past several years, I’ve transitioned my makeup and skin care routine to using more natural products. Our skin is our biggest organ and everything we put on it is absorbed directly into it. I've learned to be just as cornered about what I put on my body, as I am with what I put in it.
I've had a set makeup and skincare routine for a while now with my favorite better for you products (will post more on that soon), but was recently introduced to a line called Beautycounter by my high school friend, Elizabeth. Beautycounter not only makes safer products, but they are focused on educating consumers on the self-regulated personal care industry; even lobbying in Washington for more regulation in the industry. How awesome is that?! Seriously, how many companies do you know that actually want more regulation?! I was happy to learn that they have banned more than 1,500 ingredients (dubbed the never list) from their products and are setting a new health and safety standard for consumers. This is the main reason I decided to try their products.
Beautycounter is a direct sales makeup and skin care company, so products are sold online through their local beauty consultants, like my friend Elizabeth. They have a membership program you can join for a small annual fee, which entitles you to a 15% product credit on each order and free shipping, but you don't have to join to place an order.
Even through I was happy with my current skincare routine and favorite products, I was excited to learn more about Beautycounter. However, I'm very picky about the products I use and didn't want to purchase anything without being able to first try them out. My friend Elizabeth, a Beautycounter rep, doesn't live near me, but was awesome enough to send me samples from her own stash of products so that I could try them out. If you want to try out any products before purchasing, find a local rep near you and attend or book an in-home party. Some reps even have full sets of products that they loan out to their customers to sample for a few days or even up to a week.
I've only been using a few of their products for a couple months now, but so far I'm impressed. I've tried the cleanser, cream exfoliator and eye cream from the nourishing line, the eye cream from the rejuvenating line, as well as the charcoal beauty bar and sunscreen. I'm super sensitive to scents and don't usually tolerate most fragrances well. I love that every product I have tried so far has not only had a clean, fresh, neutral scent, but also left my skin feeling amazing.
One of my favorite products so far is the charcoal beauty bar. I have never been a bar soap gal, but I absolutely LOVE this one! You can use it on your body or even your face. Charcoal is known for its ability to absorb and draw out oil from the skin. It also works to clarify and detoxify your skin without drying it out. I've also been loving the sunscreen and rejuvenating eye cream. The sunscreen is creamy, absorbs into your skin nicely and is not greasy. Going to use that a ton this summer! The rejuvenating eye cream is great for reducing puffiness, fine lines, wrinkles and is super moisturizing. I did really like the cleanser and exfoliator that I tried and will probably add them into the my routine soon as well.
I look forward to trying more Beautycounter products and continuing to add them into my routine. It's nice to find companies embracing the better for you mantra and cleaning up the ingredients found in our personal care products!
